Abstract
This Act provides for access to information held by public authorities so as to o reinforce and give further effect to certain fundamental principles underlying the system of constitutional democracy, namely- (a) governmental accountability; (b) transparency; and (c) public participation in national decision-making. Subject to the provisions of this Act, every person shall have a right to obtain access to an official document, other than an exempt document. Each authority shall publish the information statement set out in the First Schedule to this Act. The Act also provides for appeal with the Appeal Tribunal.
