Country Fires Act.

This Act makes provision for the control of country fires, i.e. fires made in relation with the cultivation of crops.
The setting of fire to any crop shall be prohibited except the burning of sugar cane in order to eradicate any vine or pest. “Crop” means any crop, tree, wood or underwood, or other produce of the soil, whether cultivated or not, which is growing in or upon any land. Trash, i.e. any dried cane leaves, megass, straw, brushwood, cut-plant or other inflammable material, shall be burned only in accordance with conditions set out in this Act. The Minister may prohibit the setting of fire to trash without a permit for specific parts of Jamaica. The Act allows the setting of fire to any plant or trash, subject to the conditions as set out in the Act, for the purpose of eradicating, or preventing the dissemination of, any disease within the meaning of the Plants (Protection from Disease) Act.
