Abstract
These Regulations introduce measures to control the spreading of foot-and-mouth disease in Jamaica.
They impose a duty on every person having under his or her charge any animal affected with, or suspected to be affected with, foot-and-mouth disease to notify authorities and to comply with a Notice declaring an Infected Place and related directions issued by an inspector appointed under the Animals (Diseases and Importation) Act. Owners or occupiers of any infected place shall isolate animals and disinfect the infected place in accordance with these Regulations. Dogs and poultry in an area within five miles of an infected place shall be enclosed and kept in confinement. Animals in infected places shall be subject to various rules as specified in these Regulations. Removal of animals, carcases, dung, litter, fodder, etc. requires a licence of the inspector. Milk of an infected place shall be used for feed or food only after specified treatment. The Regulations further provide for various rules regarding the control of movement of animals in infected places and treatment of infected places.
