Abstract
This Act makes provision for the establishment, administration and operation of irrigation schemes in Jamaica and the management and conservation of water resources in relation with irrigation. The 65 sections of this Act are divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Preparation, Confirmation and Modification of Schemes (II); Implementing of Schemes (III); Compensation, Enquiries, Water Courts and Legal Proceedings (IV); Conservation and Protection of Water Resources (V); Rates and Financial Provisions (VI); Establishment, Incorporation of Authority and Administration (VII); Miscellaneous (VIII). The Minister may, by Order, declare any area to be an irrigation area or a restricted area for the purposes of this Act (sect. 3). For each area an Irrigation Authority shall be established (sect. 5).
