Abstract
This Act grants power to the Minister to (a) prohibit the keeping of any animal specified in an Order (“prohibited animal”) within any area specified in an Order (“prohibited area”); (b) restrict or control the keeping of any animal (“prescribed animal”) within any area specified in an Order (“restricted area”) so as to ensure that such animal is not kept otherwise than under the authority of a licence issued by a Competent Authority pursuant to this Act for the purpose. Any person who keeps an animal in contravention of any Order made under this Act shall be guilty of an offence. The Competent Authority may issue a licence if it is satisfied that no health hazard or nuisance will arise from the use of a place for the purpose of keeping such animals, and attach such conditions or limitations as the Competent Authority may consider desirable. The Act further provides for measures of enforcement and appeals against decisions of the Competent Authority.
