Abstract
The objectives of National School Nutrition Standards are: 1. To define the types of foods and beverages which are restricted, in order to replace food high in fat, sugar and salt with more nutritious food and drinks; 2. To ensure nourishing food is served more frequently; 3. To ensure improvement in the nutrient quality of school meals, allowing time for the more detailed process of developing meals that meet the new nutrient-based standards.
The Standards include guidelines for school food procurement, meal preparation, ordering, and record-keeping, personal hygiene among food service staff, regular monitoring of food storage conditions, and adherence to sanitation protocols.
