Updated Nationally Determined Contribution of Jamaica to UNFCCC.

This policy is a national policy with a multi-sectoral approach. Jamaica aims at reducing emissions relative to business-as-usual by 2030, covering the energy sector and land-use change and forestry.
By 2030, emissions in the land-use change and forestry sectors will be lower than in the business-as-usual scenario due to the fact that the emission reductions in these two sectors are foreseen between 25.4 per cent (unconditional) and 28.5 per cent (conditional). Jamaica will further undertake a range of actions in the agriculture and waste sector which are not covered under these quantitative commitments. These agricultural projects includes a project focusing on promoting community-based climate resilience in the fisheries sector and another project focusing on integrated watershed management with the aim of biodiversity conservation and provision of ecosystem services. This will be achieved through sustainable agriculture, renewable power generation, forestry, land management, and livelihood practices within targeted communities. This Policy underlines that the outcomes of this project will maximize emission reductions for the four-year duration of the project. In addition to that, Jamaica will undertake a range of pilot projects to improve the management and reduce the emissions of the waste sector. Moreover, efforts will be made to address data gaps over time with the support of national, regional and international partners in order to assess the impact of policies and actions on emissions in other sectors.
