Abstract
This Amman Resilience Strategy is a multi-sectoral document at the local level, produced by the Municipality of Amman, aiming at addressing all aspects of life and the needs of the city. It was developed, with wide participation by all stakeholders from both public and private sectors, local and international civil society organizations, within the project 100 Resilient Cities developed by The Rockefeller Foundation to help more cities build resilience to the physical, social, and economic challenges. It consists of 5 pillars to which the goals that the city aims for are linked (1) an integrated and smart city: (i) improve t he mobility systems; (ii) promote walkability; (iii) institutionalize planning in the city; (iv) connect the city digitally; (2) an environmentally proactive city: (i) manage and fulfil climate change commitments; (ii) improve energy efficiency and energy security, including by diversifying energy sources; (iii) promote application of green building codes and guidelines; (iv) manage water resources efficiently; (v) improve waste management system; (3) an innovative and prosperous city: (i) leverage the existing human capital to create employment; (ii) support entrepreneurs, start-ups and incubators; (iii) empower women; (4) a young and equal city: (i) integrate and engage young people equally; (ii) support the youth through cultural campaigns; (5) a united and proud city: (i) promote a sense of belonging amongst citizens; (ii) promote participation and engagement.
