Abstract
"Jordan 2025" charts a path for the future and determines the integrated economic and social framework that will govern the economic and social policies based on providing opportunities for all. Its basic principles include promoting the rule of law and equal opportunities, increasing participatory policy making and strengthening institutions. To achieve this it is necessary to improve infrastructure, enhance education and health and strengthen the role of the private sector and civil society institutions to contribute to the development process. Based on these principles, the vision proposes a roadmap for the future that requires consensus among broad segments of society and the roles of all concerned authorities and stakeholders. The document addresses resource management and security, particularly water, energy and food security. The vision provides an analysis of resource security, especially in energy, water and food sectors and presents a number of initiatives and policies on how to ensure the sustainability of these sectors that are related to other sectors, through the implementation of the National Strategy for Food Security (1.4.6.3).
Resource Security and Management in Part 1: Food and Agriculture, lists measures to maintain the sustainability of agricultural resources and biodiversity; to preserve forest areas and biodiversity and protect the vegetation cover. Afforest 25% of barren forest areas in the rain belt areas on which the rate of precipitation exceeds 300 mm.
This strategy also addresses the social aspects of poverty, unemployment and social protection. The analysis discusses the progress that has been made on these levels and the urgent challenges that require policies and procedures to mitigate the effects of poverty and unemployment in particular, especially in the governorates where these rates are high. Trade and Competitiveness Targeted scenario develops a supply and consumer protection policy, a market surveillance mechanisms and adopts the amended Industry and Trade Act which includes harsher penalties on violators and the powers of the pricing of non-basic goods. It also creates new markets for the Civil Service Consumer Corporation in various governorates of the Kingdom as needed.
Healthcare Targeted Scenarios lists the adoption of strategies to cope with disasters, environmental and demographic changes and financial crises. The Environment Sector develops a legislative framework for the organization of climate change to maximize the benefits, minimize the negative impacts and build national capacity.
