Abstract
This Law consisting of 75 articles aims at regulating issues related to the public health system in the Kingdom of Jordan. The Law governs all professions related to public health and conditions and necessary procedures required for practicing in the medical profession. Art.4 states also that the Ministry of Health is the competent authority accountable for the protection of public health in the country. It is also responsible for monitoring the water and food quality to ensure its safety and adequacy for human consumption.
Chapter VIII deals with drinking water and provides for the responsibility of the Ministry regarding: (i) Monitoring of drinking water; (ii) Taking the necessary measures to prevent the use of any non-potable water; (iii) Examination and approval before importing drinking water into the Kingdom; (iv) controls on drinking water sources and networks to ensure that they are not exposed to pollution; (v) modality to treat, transport, distribute and store drinking water to ensure the availability of sanitary conditions.
Chapter IX regards Chemicals; Chapter XI deals with Sewage; Chapter XIII regarding Crafts, industries and hawkers prohibits these activities unless the approval of the Minister of Health and states that an authorized officer shall be entitled at any time to inspect any place of the aforementioned activities.
