Abstract
This Act provides for the adoption of internationally accepted measures which impose strict liability for oil pollution damage in order to protect Japan’s marine wealth and to contribute to sound development of marine transportation.
The Act makes provision for the following matters: liability for tanker oil pollution damage; liability for general ship oil pollution damage; systems of limitation of liability; systems of compulsory insurance and certification; contributions to the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund; penalties; etc.
