Abstract
The aims of this Act are to control water quality, protect and provide nursery grounds of aquatic animals and plants, and preserve forests in order to conserve and improve the environment for aquatic animals and plants.
The Act provides for measures to be taken by the State for: the conservation and management of living aquatic resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone and in other waters; research and study of living aquatic resources; the promotion of production and release of seedlings of aquatic animals; the import and export of marine products; the development of efficient and stable fishery management; the development and maintenance of human resources; the compensation for disaster losses; the improvement of fisheries industry; etc.
In addition, the Act establishes a Fishery Policy Council and defines its internal organization. The Council shall be responsible for implementing provisions of this Act.
