Abstract
This Act prohibits the raising, planting, storing or carrying, importing, etc. of invasive alien species (IAS) in order to prevent adverse effects on ecosystems, human safety, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. The Act consists of 6 Chapters divided into 36 articles.
Invasive alien species shall mean eggs, seeds, etc. which are recognized or feared to cause adverse effects on ecosystems because of their different properties from organisms having original habitats in Japan. Chapter 2 regulates the handling of IAS. Chapter 3 deals with the mitigation of IAS by the National Government and other entities. Chapter 4 puts restrictions on the import of uncategorized alien species. The remaining Chapters contain penal provisions and provisions of miscellaneous nature.
