Abstract
The purpose of this Law is to prevent marine pollution and maritime disaster in order to contribute to the preservation of the marine environment.
The Law aims at controlling the discharge into the ocean of oil, noxious liquid substances and wastes from ships, offshore facilities and aircrafts; regulating the incineration of oil, noxious liquid substances and wastes on a ship and at off-shore facilities; securing appropriate disposal of waste oil and taking measures for the removal of the discharged oil, noxious liquid substances and wastes; preventing the occurrence and spread of fire at sea; securing appropriate enforcement of international conventions on the prevention of marine pollution and maritime disaster. The Law further contains penal provisions and provisions of miscellaneous nature.
