Abstract
These Regulations provide the detailed framework for implementing Japan’s Food Sanitation Act, covering food, additives, apparatus, containers, and packaging. The Regulations establish standards for food safety, including the management of toxic substances, procedures for product inspections, import notifications, and requirements for food sanitation inspection facilities and registered inspection bodies. The Regulations also outline the responsibilities of business operators, including hygiene management, record-keeping, and the appointment of food sanitation supervisors, as well as the criteria for training and qualifications.
Additionally, the Regulations specify procedures for monitoring, guidance, and reporting, including the handling of food poisoning incidents and the recall of unsafe products. Requirements are set out for facility structure, equipment, and sanitation practices to prevent contamination and ensure public health.
