Abstract
The Water Act 2016 under Section 72 requires Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) to determine and prescribe national standards for the provision of water services and asset development for water services providers and monitor compliance with standards including the design, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities for the provision of water services by the water works development bodies and the water services providers. These guidelines contain information on establishing the minimum number of samples to be taken, water quality parameters to be measured, recording and reporting/ publication of results. Compliance with this guideline is a condition of the licence granted to the the water services board.
The purpose of this guideline is to: 1) Promote transparency in the methods of water quality monitoring employed by the WSPs and thus build public confi dence in service provision; 2) Ensure through regular monitoring that the quality of water provided meets the standards set by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS); 3) Create awareness among the Water Services Boards (WSBs) and WSPs on the water quality monitoring requirements; 4) Ensure that all WSBs and WSPs follow a systematic way of water quality monitoring so as to have uniformity of the process; 5) Ensure a minimum standard of water quality monitoring at acceptable costs; 6) and create awareness among consumers that information regarding water quality will be made available by the WSPs.
