Abstract
This Act, divided into fourteen parts, provides for establishing a framework for registration and regulation of co-operative societies within the County, in order to: increase growth and development of co-operative societies; promote cooperation between the national and county governments in matters relating to co-operative societies; enhance good governance in the co-operative societies; manage conflicts and disputes; promote local economic growth and development. The Act concerns the following matters: administration and role of the County executive committee members; registration and structure of the cooperative societies; types of cooperative societies, including: those dealing with the processing, packaging and marketing of members agricultural produce, those focused on the production, manufacturing and sale of goods, housing cooperative societies dealing with purchase of land, livestock and dairy farming co-operative societies, fisheries co-operatives to deal with fishing, processing, packaging and marketing of fish and sea products, investment co-operative societies. Further matters covered by this Act include: rights and liabilities of members; rights and duties of cooperatives societies; management of cooperative societies; property and fund of cooperative societies; inquiry and inspection; dissolution; settlement of disputes; general provisions and offences.
