The Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Management and Control of Plastic Packaging Materials) Regulations, Legal Notice no. 181 of 2024.

These Regulations, implementing section 147 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, provide for: establishing a framework for the management and control of the use of plastic packaging material; promoting the use of environmentally-friendly packaging material; promoting a clean and healthy environment for sustainable development; encouraging the recycling of plastic packaging material. The Regulations apply to all plastic carrier bags and plastic packaging materials, and to all plastic packaging materials on imported products. Matters covered by these Regulations include: authorisation to manufacture, import, use or export plastic flat bags and plastic film products; issuance of licences; management of plastic packaging materials and extended producer responsibility; prohibition on purchase of plastic packaging materials; record keeping; offences and penalties.
