Abstract
This Order, made by the Water Authority in compliance with provisions of section 22 of the Water Act, apply to the National Government, national government entities, county governments, county government entities and any other person being a user of water resources and the riparian reserve of the protected area. The Order provides for declaring the Kamatargui Wetland Catchment area as a protected area. The attached Management Plan details the protection, conservation and use of the water resources within the protected area, and the actions required to water and land users, including offences in case of misconduct. The general objectives of the Plan are: ensuring sustainable management and use of water resources within the wetland catchment area; improving the conservation of the wetland areas as source of water for the communities; promoting ecological biodiversity in view of climate change, changing land-use and lifestyle practices. The Management Plan specifies activities involving land uses and their potential impact on the water resources: deforestation, water pollution, encroachment, soil erosion, deforestation, land degradation and clearing. Concerning measures for ensuring protection and conservation of the wetland area, the Management Plan specifies: prohibited activities within the protected area, including: clearing of indigenous trees or vegetation, building of permanent structures, disposal of any form of waste, excavation of soil and development of quarries, planting of exotic species; encouraging activities that enhance both water quality and quantity.
