Abstract
The Kenya Energy Transition & Investment Plan (ETIP) 2023-2050 outlines Kenya's strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 while supporting economic growth and green development. This comprehensive plan provides a roadmap for transitioning the country's energy systems through key decarbonization technologies, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric mobility, energy storage, and clean cooking solutions. The document highlights the importance of balancing environmental sustainability, energy affordability, economic impact, employment opportunities, and energy security. By leveraging its renewable energy potential—solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro—Kenya aims to meet its growing energy demand, decarbonize critical sectors (transport, industry, buildings), and establish itself as a hub for low-carbon technologies and green manufacturing. The ETIP projects a significant investment requirement of USD 600 billion by 2050, with power and transport sectors accounting for the majority. This investment could drive economic opportunities, supporting an estimated 500,000 additional jobs and fostering new growth sectors such as green hydrogen production and clean technology manufacturing. The document underscores the role of public-private partnerships, international financing, and de-risking mechanisms in mobilizing capital.
