Abstract
This Strategic Plan, in harmony with the government’s development agenda, and the global and regional development goals, promotes a favourable investment environment in order to facilitate, coordinate and strengthen inclusive and equitable economic growth in Kenya, through multiple supportive economic sectors including: manufacturing, tourism, financial services, environment and climate. The Strategic Plan identifies the following priority actions: strengthening the legal and regulatory framework for investment promotion and protection; integrated investment facilitation and aftercare services; promotion of bankable investment opportunities; targeted investment promotion and attraction; research and policy advocacy; transforming investment promotion agency. The Strategic Plan’s vision aims at positioning Kenya as a leading investments destination; the mission is to advocate for a favourable investment environment.
Concerning the Investment Authority’s strategic direction, this Strategic Plan focuses on the following areas of interest, considering the importance of environmental factors’ impacts in investment decisions: climate change risks, through the impact of climate change on sustainable investments, and the emphasis on the need for adaptation and resilience measures to mitigate risks, and the investment in renewable energy sources and sustainable waste management; sustainable agriculture, through strengthening investment in sustainable agriculture practices like organic farming, agroforestry, and precision farming to enhance productivity; ecotourism, focusing on sustainable tourism infrastructure, wildlife conservation, and community-based initiatives to protect natural resources. The Strategic Plan also analyses the collaborative efforts required from all stakeholders to achieve the strategic goals, and the roles and expectations of various stakeholders, through the following key points: public participation; Strategic Plan development; regional integration promotion and facilitation of cross-border investments; private sector organisations; learning and research institutions; risk management measures.
