Abstract
This Act, divided into fourteen Parts and consisting of 90 sections, provides for a legislative and institutional framework to increase promotion and development of co-operative societies, formation, registration and licensing of co-operative societies, cooperation between county and national governments in matter related, in accordance with the Constitutional provisions. Matters covered by this Act include: administration and registration of co-operative societies; role of the County Executive Committee Member; formation, organisation and structure of co-operative societies; types of co-operative societies, including: marketing co-operative societies, dealing with processing, packaging and marketing of agricultural produce, livestock co-operative societies dealing with the needs of members in animal husbandry, livestock keeping and dairy farming, fisheries co-operatives dealing with fishing, processing, packaging and marketing of fish and sea products, investment cooperative societies. Further matters covered by this Act include: rights and liabilities of the members; duties of cooperative societies; management of cooperative societies; rights and obligations of co-operative societies; property and fund of cooperative societies; charges imposed by cooperative societies; inquiry and inspection provisions; procedure for dissolution of cooperative societies; settlement of disputes; offences.
