Kericho County Food Security Act, no. 6 of 2022.

This Act provides for: ensuring consistent access to adequate and nutritious food for all residents of Kericho County, in order to realise the right to freedom from hunger and access to food of acceptable quality as a fundamental human right; eliminating and preventing discrimination of marginalised groups in the access and distribution of food; encouraging food production, self-sustenance and food security in relation to all persons of the county; coordinating the implementation of the county food Policy, programmes and plans on food security; establishing institutions and co-operative governance and procedures for co-ordinating food security functions exercised by the County; planning budgeting and implementation of the County policy on food security and nutrition using a rights based approach; ensuring that food is treated as a county strategic resource. The Act concerns: duties and obligations of the county government to ensure respect of the right to adequate food and freedom from hunger; establishment of Food Security Committee and sub-county food security committees; food insecurities and information mapping systems; food impact assessment; public participation; food security fund; offences.
