Management Plan for Lake Kenyatta Sub Catchment.

This Management Plan concerns the conservation and protection of Lake Kenyatta catchment area and its aquifers, through the definition of targeted measures. The Management Plan focuses on: location of the area; definition of watershed; groundwater and other freshwater supply sources under the Lake Kenyatta Water Users Association (LAKWUA); composition and characteristics of the soil; rivers of the area; current land use and adverse impacts; primary forest coverage; practice of agroforestry; subsistence farming and crops cultivation; measures to protect forest resources, including: afforestation, ecosystem conservation, protection of indigenous trees and forests. Concerning adverse impacts of land use on water resources, the Management Plan describes: overexploitation of available resources; soil erosion; land degradation; deforestation; water pollution. The Management Plan indicates the following prohibited activities: clearing of indigenous vegetation; disposal of any form of waste; excavation of soil; planting of exotic plant species that may endanger the water resources.
