Murang’a County Integrated Development Plan 2018-2022.

The Murang’a County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2018-2022 is organized in 6 Chapters and 21 Tables and has the mission to transform the County through participative, equitable and sustainable development initiatives for the benefit of all. Chapter 1 gives a general overview of the County background. Chapter 2 indicates the linkages between the CIDP and other National and international policy documents as well as integration of the SDGs. Chapter 3 gives a summary of the review of the implementation of the previous CIDP (2013-2017). Chapter 4 tabulates the strategic programmes and sub-programmes by sector while Chapter 5 shows resource mobilization strategies, sources and allocations by sector. Also, Chapter 5 outlines the governance structure of the County Chapter 6 outlines how programmes and projects will be monitored and evaluated in compliance with Section 108(1) (c) of the County Government Act.
Development priorities and strategies are cross-sectoral and include programmes and projects in the public service and administration sector; finance IT and economic planning; education, youth and social services; health; trade, investment, agribusiness and cooperatives ; environment and climate change; land, housing and urban development; roads, transport, energy and public works; agriculture, livestock and fisheries; water and irrigation.
The Policy, to help eliminate hunger and food insecurity, makes several proposal and statements. Firstly the Plan makes reference to SDG 2 End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Secondly both in the vision and the sector goal for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sector makes reference to food security; also in the Trade, Tourism, Investment, Agri-Business, and Cooperatives sector food security is a core concept related to market access and inclusiveness in market. Among the programmes for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sector the Plan identifies as one of the objectives to ensure access to safe, nutritious and affordable food at household level and increased incomes.
In order to make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable, the Policy envisages many measures and programmes in the dedicated sectors. These include for instance promotion of appropriate technologies sustainably, encouragement of transformation of agricultural enterprises from subsistence to agribusiness, ensure increased and sustainable fish production and utilization of fish and fish products by properly managing the county fishery resource, among others.
For rural poverty reduction main possible actions are to ensure harmonious and sustainable land uses, ownership and secure land tenure, improve land records, among others.
To enable more inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems, proposed interventions aim to, Inclusion of youth and women in agribusiness, develop youth and women friendly technologies, Increased participation of youth, women and vulnerable in livestock production (bee keeping), strengthening stakeholder participation in all irrigation projects and initiatives, among others.
To increase the resilience of livelihoods to disasters, main actions are directed to create adaptation strategies through capacity building, Integrate climate change measures into county policies strategies and planning, , Promoting alternative livelihood for women, youth, and marginalized groups Promotion of clean energy, and promotion of clean energy.
