Nakuru County Public Health and Sanitation Act, no. 1 of 2017.

This Act, divided into ten Parts, provides for: ensuring the protection of the right to health as granted in the Constitution of Kenya and for ensuring uniformity in respect of public health services across the County; increasing protection of environment and of the right to a clean and healthy environment. Matters covered by this Act include: establishment of Boards and Public Health Departments and definition of their functions; inspection of infected premises and examination of persons suspected to be suffering from infections diseases, in order to increase prevention and suppression of infectious diseases; measures for ensuring sanitation of land and housing, including: land zoning, remedying danger from unsustainable building, use of sanitary facilities, increasing sewerage system, decentralised waste treatment; increasing street cleansing and medical waste management; public health nuisance prevention and suppression. The Act also focuses on food hygiene measures, and particularly concerns: meat and animal products; packaging and labelling; food plants; insanitary conditions; infectious diseases; prohibition against sale of unwholesome poisonous or adulterated food; standard and health measures for food plants; solid and liquid waste management; environmental pollution and effluent control.
