The Nakuru County Water and Sanitation Services Act, no. 6 of 2021.

This Act, implementing Constitutional provisions, provides for: ensuring equitable and continuous access to clean water; promoting soil and water conservation, and water catchment protection; developing county water services public works; ensuring effective, efficient and affordable provision of water and sanitation services; promoting effective and efficient management of storm water in built up areas; facilitating effective and efficient dispute resolution mechanism on matters relating to water and sanitation; enhancing sustainable management of water resources; strengthening inter-agency collaboration and public participation in water resource development and management.
The Act concerns: duties of the Department for water and sanitation services; establishment of Nakuru County Water Sector Forum; establishment of water service providers, and definition of their functions; strategic planning; adoption of quality management system; water services, including: water supply, water distribution, water quality standards, zoning for water services delivery, development of waterworks on public or private property, water tariffs; permits and controls related to abstraction of ground and surface water; water conservation areas; soil protection measures; conservation of wetlands; demarcation of riparian land; storm water management and land use practices; rainwater harvesting; sanitation services and pollution control, including: waste water management, compliance with effluent standards, interference with sewerage system; financing and funds, utilisation of fees and charges.
