Nyamira County Climate Change Policy.

This Policy, inspired by conventions such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); the 2005 Kyoto Protocol the Climate Change Strategy for the Nairobi Convention (UNEP 2016), provides an interlink between sustainable national development and Climate Change, moving from the consideration that climate change affects various sectors relevant to the economy and the society: environment, water and forestry, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, trade, extractive industries, energy, physical infrastructure, tourism and health. The Vision of the Policy is an outstanding climate resilient and sustainable agro-industrialized County. The Mission of the Policy focuses on: enhancing integrated climate change adaptive and mitigative actions for sustainable economic and socio-ecological development. The Policy is based on the following principles: right to a clean and healthy environment; sustainable development; building partnership; integrity and transparency. Concerning the objectives, this Policy focuses on: establishing and maintaining an effective and efficient institutional framework to mainstream climate change responses across relevant sectors; reducing vulnerability to the impacts of climate change by building adaptive capacity for disaster risk reduction; increasing the capacity building of climate change experts in the County; adopting intergenerational, special needs and gender mainstreaming approaches across all aspects of the County's climate change response; enhancing research and use of science and technology in policy decisions and sustainable management of resources.
