One Health Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases in Kenya (2021-2025)

The One Health Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases in Kenya (2021-2025) is a national cross-sectoral plan. Its main objectives are to reduce the burden of zoonotic diseases through a One Health (OH) approach; strengthen implementation of one health approach at national and county levels; strengthen OH co-ordination mechanisms at national and county levels; strengthen collaborative mechanisms for OH initiatives; strengthen OH policy and legal frameworks; support capacity building for OH workforce; strengthen prevention, surveillance, response and control of priority zoonotic diseases in both humans and animals; strengthen surveillance for zoonotic diseases at the national and county level; enhance, prevention and control of priority endemic zoonotic diseases; enhance preparedness and response to zoonotic disease outbreaks and public health events of initially unknown etiology; support strengthening of national, regional and county laboratories for diagnosis of priority zoonotic diseases; strengthen early warning systems for the detection of emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases and public health events of initially unknown etiology; promote applied research using the OH approach; develop zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases research agenda for Kenya; and conduct applied research to inform evidence-based strategies and policies on priority zoonotic diseases.
