Abstract
This Management Plan, adopted under section 5 of the Fisheries Act, empowers the Director of Fisheries to prescribe measures with respect to the Prawn fishery in the geographical marine area covered in the Plan. The principal objective of the Plan is to ensure the continuation of a biologically sustainable and economically viable prawn fishery. Measures that may be prescribed by the Director of Fisheries include: zoning, regulating on mesh size, requiring the mandatory use of Turtle Excluder Devices, and placing limitations on the use of vessels. The Director shall also put in place a monitoring programme, carry out certain initiatives for the development of artisanal and other small-scale fishing, and may, at certain conditions, suspend fishing licences.
