Decision No. 117 validating the Procedure for maintaining the state register of protected areas.

The state register of protected areas is maintained by the authorized state body in the field of environmental protection (its subordinate unit) in order to assess the state of the natural reserve fund, determine the prospects for the development of a network of these territories, increase the efficiency of state control in the field of protection and use of protected areas, as well as accounting of these territories when planning the socio-economic development of regions. This Procedure establishes the rules of maintenance, regulatory standards, and requirements for the information provided for the Register of Protected Areas. State register of protected areas is a set of information about the status, location, quantitative and qualitative characteristics of protected areas, their environmental, scientific, educational, historical, cultural and other value. The maintenance of the Register of Protected Natural Areas is the compilation, generalization, structuring, accumulation, and storage of information about protected natural areas based on cadastral information of all categories of protected areas. Cadastral information must contain the following sections: (a) formation and departmental affiliation of protected areas; (b) environmental status and geographic location of protected areas; (c) natural features of protected areas; (d) explication of protected areas land and their functional zones (the area is given in hectares and as a percentage of the total area of protected areas); (e) negative impacts on protected areas (factors and risks) (the section is filled in as information accumulates); and (f) educational and recreational facilities in protected areas.
