Abstract
This Law defines the general legal and economic fundamentals of the establishment and activity of cooperatives and their unions which comprise the system of cooperation in the Kyrgyz Republic, based on internationally accepted cooperative principles and values.
"Cooperative" is defined in article 1 as "a voluntary amalgamation of individuals and/or legal entities formed on the basis of membership to satisfy financial and other needs by arrangement of joint activity set forth in its charter on democratic basis and by pooling of share contributions by its members". Also a definition of agricultural cooperative is given in the same article and article 6. Article 7 distinguishes between various types of cooperatives. Article 9 makes provision for Unions (Associations) of Cooperatives. The legal capacity of cooperatives is described in article 10. Chapter II (articles 12 and 13) contains rules with respect to the establishment of cooperatives. State registration of a cooperative shall be performed in the respective justice agencies of the rayon in the procedure established by legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic on Registration of Legal Entities.
Other Chapters concern membership of the cooperative, its management and property and contractual obligations of cooperatives.
