It identifies four strategic areas for responding to climate changeC in the water sector: 1. Improved hydrological planning and management and early warning; 2. Improved flood and drought management, through changes in design of reservoirs and irrigation and protection infrastructures, especially in vulnerable zones; 3. Capacity development for staff of Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology; 4. Promoting gender responsiveness in Climate Change planning in the water sector. The proposed actions include: Strengthening Climate Information; Capacity building for national and provincial department of water resources for climatic data collection, recording etc.; Improving institutional structure, networking with mass media for public weather and climate forecasting dissemination; Installation of guaging station to monitor rainfall, wind speed, storms and sea level rise; Climate risk management and rehabilitation of small, medium and large-scale irrigation infrastructure; Promoting innovative irrigation technology structure in areas affected by torrential rain; Capacity development for irrigation engineers on climate risk management Upscaling mobile pumping stations and permanent stations in responding to mini-droughts; Development and rehabilitation of flood protection dikes for agricultural/ urban development; Promoting climate resilience of agriculture through building sea dikes in coastal areas; Promoting gender responsiveness in water management, CC impact and adaptation; etc.
