Abstract
This Sub-Decree provides for the establishment of a commission for preserving and developing a tourism area for freshwater dolphins.
The Sub-Decree defines the internal organization and duties of the commission which shall include: educate people and raise public awareness of the importance and value of dolphins threatened with extinction; assign officials to guard regularly the dolphin area both on land and in the river in cooperation with community and local authorities; enable people in the local community to have other jobs replacing fishing within the area where freshwater dolphins live; draft master plans and action plans in preserving and developing dolphin tourism in the Mekong River; and cooperate with development partners and NGOs to serve the goal of conservation and development of dolphin tourism area with sustainability.
