Abstract
This Act sets out application procedures for the incorporation of a society to the Registrar; rules of incorporated societies; registration of incorporated societies; certificate of incorporation issued under the seal of the Registrar; penalty for improper use of word “Incorporated”; contracts by society; prohibition for the society to engage in operations invoiving pecuniary gain; registration of members of the society; powers of inspection of Registrar; and appeals from decisions of Registrar.
This Act defines incorporated societies as any society consisting of not less than 15 persons associated for any lawful purpose but not for pecuniary gain, upon application being made to the Registrar in accordance with this Act. The Fisheries (Conservation and Management of Coastal Marine Resources) Regulations 2019 refer to this Act while defining coastal community as a community that is established and recognized under this Act as an incorporated society for purposes which include participation in the conservation, management and protection of coastal marine resources in adjacent coastal areas.
