Abstract
This Act makes provision for the registration of ships, proprietary interests in ships and the control of navigation and related matters such as survey, marking, the prevention of pollution and liability for and compensation of oil pollution.
Selected provisions of this Act apply to fishing vessels. The Minister may make Orders for implementation of the Law of the Sea Convention in relation with protection of the marine environment. The Chapters on oil pollution damage concern, among other things, compulsory insurance, contributions to the International Oil Compensation Fund and compensation for oil pollution damage. The Consolidated text of the Law includes several Regulations on various related topics.
