Abstract
This Act concerns the definition of new standards for weights and measures and provides for establishing a National Metrology Service. The Act defines the following relevant terms: inspection; importer; measurement standard; pre-packaged goods; primary and secondary standard; trade. Matters covered by this Act include: administration of national metrology service; designation of inspectors; disposal of fees; principal system of measurement; verification of primary and secondary standards, and periodic calibration; use of authorised units for all purposes; exemption of export goods; use of authorised denominations of weights and measures; inspection and verification of weighing and measuring equipment; product quantities and pre-packaged goods; offences and penalties.
