Abstract
This National Policy, based on the respect of the right to good health of the citizens and inhabitants of the country, and on the link between critical health issues and sustainable development, presents the intents and decisions of the government in relation to the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCD), and specifies, in a Plan, the actions and measures necessary to address the priority issues of health protection, disease prevention, promotion of healthy lifestyles and appropriate disease management. The Policy describes roles of the Ministry and addresses issues related to sanitary prevention measures, and modification of behavioural risk factors to encourage healthy lifestyle changes. The Plan focuses on: preservation of the ecological production and its linkage to food security and healthy diets; fair trade measures and impact on tobacco control and harmful use of alcohol; targeted priority actions, including: health promotion and healthy eating, enhancing food security, strengthening the nutritional and quality standard for food industry, nutritional labelling of food, definition of food-based dietary guidelines for school meals, promotion of balanced dietary uses, reducing salt content in processed food and salt consumption.
