Abstract
The National Poverty Reduction Strategy is a national policy covering the period of 5 years. The specific targets of this policy are: (I) eliminating indigence and reducing poverty through the restoration of the economy on to a growth path that provides increased opportunities for entrepreneurship, income generation and employment for the adult population; (II) providing for food security thus curbing the impact of the global crisis in food and energy; (III) improving access to early childhood, and providing education to both boys and girls in an equal manner; (IV) reducing the incidence of diseases; (V) ensuring universal access to flush toilets for all households; (VI) providing secure tenancy and ownership arrangements for all households; (VII) rationalising the social protection; (VIII) promoting good governance and strengthening public sector management with a view to increasing transparency and accountability; and (X) increasing the resilience to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters.
