Atomic Energy Act.

The purpose of this Act is to contribute to the improvement of citizens' living standards, to ensure citizens’ safety, and to strive for the prevention of disasters resulting from radiation by prescribing matters concerning research, development, production and utilization of nuclear energy and promoting the advancement of science and development of the industry.
The Act provides for basic and fundamental matters concerning the development and utilization of nuclear energy and safety regulation. It includes provisions on: the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC); the Atomic Energy Safety Commission (NSC); nuclear energy promotion plans; establishment of the Korea Institute of Nonproliferation and Control; establishment of a Nuclear Energy Research and Development Fund; construction permits and operating licences of nuclear reactors and related facilities; permits to carry out businesses on the refining or processing of nuclear raw materials, for the use or possession of nuclear materials, for the production, sale and use of radioactive isotopes and radiation generating devices; and transport and disposal of radioactive wastes and others.
