Energy Act.

The purpose of this Act is to contribute to the sustainable development of the national economy and enhancement of the welfare of citizens by providing for basic matters concerning the formulation and implementation of energy policies and energy-related plans to realize a stable, efficient and environmentally friendly energy demand and supply structure. Article 9 establishes that the Government shall establish the energy Committee under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy to deliberate on matters concerning major energy policies and energy-related plans. Article 13 rules that the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning shall be established to efficiently support the planning, evaluation, management of the energy technology development-related projects. The text – consisting of 26 articles – deals, inter alia, with the following aspects: responsibilities and duties of the State, formulation of local plans, development of energy technology, conducting energy welfare projects, penalty provisions.
