Governmental Decree No. 731 validating the National project "Green Kazakhstan".

National project "Green Kazakhstan", covering the period of 2021-2025, is a nationwide policy document aimed at Creating a favorable living environment for the population and improvement of the environmental situation, including: (a) improving the quality of atmospheric air, efficient waste management related to domestic and non-domestic waste, efficient and sparing water use, conservation of ecosystems of Balkhash lake and the Northern Aral sea, biodiversity conservation by increasing the number of rare and endangered species of animals and ichthyofauna, and also the creation of protected natural areas, increasing the area of green plantings, instilling respect for nature and wildlife, as well as the modernization of ecological consciousness of the population.
Expected results: the contribution to the growth of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2025 is 0.05-0.22 percentage points annually; due to the implementation, 61043 jobs will be created, including 830 permanent and 60213 temporary jobs; achievement of forest cover of the country up to 5% of the national area; increase in real incomes of the population.
The developer of the National project is the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources.
Conservation of ecosystems of the national waterbodies envisages annual inflow into the Balkhash Lake of at least 12 cubic kilometers of water, increase of the volume of the Northern Aral Sea by 35 percent (from 20 to 27 cubic kilometers) and recovery of four lakes. National project envisages extension of protected areas and increase of natural populations of fish resources at 1 percent by 2024 and increase/expansion of the area covered with forests, including by planting 2 billion trees, while ensuring the standard survival rate of planted species in terms of species and planting regions.
