Abstract
“Healthy Lifestyle" Program for 2008–2016 is multi-sectoral nationwide policy document setting forth the goal of improving health of the population and increasing life expectancy.
The objectives of “Healthy Lifestyle" Program for 2008–2016 shall be as follows: (a) promotion of healthy lifestyle and development of the health potential of the population; and (b) creating integrated, continuous and sustainable system for shaping a healthy way of life.
Expected results: (a) increasing the level of average life expectancy to 71, 3 years; (b) reducing of smoking among the population decreased to 16,8 %; (c) reducing alcohol consumption in dangerous doses to 12,5 %; (d) increasing of fruit and vegetable consumption up to 24,6%; (e) increasing physical exercise to 26,6%; (f) decreasing overweight among children to 29,3%; (g) increasing to 73% exclusive breastfeeding of babies until 6 months of age; (h) reducing the number of abortions among women of fertile age to 20,7% per 1,000 women of fertile age; (i) reducing preventable mortality from major socially significant diseases per 100,000 of the population.
Promotion of healthy lifestyle, health improvement, development of the population's health potential and a culture of health will be carried out by developing the approach to healthy living, lifestyle and prophylaxis of: (a) behavioral risk factors: tobacco smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor-quality and irrational nutrition; and (b) low physical activity.
Preventive arrangements shall include raising public awareness about the consequences for health and health effects, formation of motivation and contributing to the creation of conditions for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The following arrangements shall be performed: (a) provision of the population with safe potable water with a view of ensuring environmental security; (b) promotion of healthy foodstuffs, seasonal fruits and vegetables consumption at prices affordable to the population; (c) gradual coverage of students in pre-school and elementary educational institutions first, and subsequently high school students with hot meals; (d) increasing the interest of local producers in supplying quality foodstuffs to schools and improvement of quality of the nutrition of students at school canteens; and (e) easing the tax burden on school canteens.
