Abstract
This Decision of the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry establishes the national standards for organic agriculture. Its primary objective is to manage and certify organic production to ensure ecological balance, enrich soil biodiversity, and reduce synthetic chemical use.
The Decision sets up the rules, principles, and technical criteria for producing, processing, certifying, and labeling organic agricultural products in Laos. It defines organic farming, prohibited substances, conversion periods, soil and water management requirements, and restrictions on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, GMOs, hormones, and additives. It also describes standards for seeds, livestock, aquaculture, and beekeeping, ensuring practices that protect health, biodiversity, and the environment.
The Decision further sets procedures for inspection, certification, and use of the “Laos Organic” label. It outlines responsibilities of producers, processors, traders, and government agencies regarding compliance, monitoring, and enforcement. Requirements for processing, storage, transportation, record-keeping, and import/export of organic products are detailed in the Text.
