Law on Natural Resources for Medicine (No.55).

This Law provides for the management, protection, and sustainable development of medicinal resources in Laos. It mandates strict oversight of plants, animals, and minerals with medicinal properties to prevent depletion or extinction while ensuring public safety and health. The legislation promotes scientific research, domestic production of traditional medicines, and regional integration to support national economic growth and environmental preservation.
The Law categorizes medicinal resources into three distinct accounts based on rarity and economic value, ranging from strictly prohibited rare species to general-purpose materials. It defines the rights and obligations of state entities, businesses, and citizens, emphasizing the Ministry of Health's role in maintaining official resource lists. Furthermore, the Law outlines technical standards for cultivation, harvesting, and processing to ensure all medicinal products meet quality requirements for domestic use and export.
