Abstract
This Law aims to strengthen the political and social role of women in national development while promoting gender equality. Issued by the President following approval by the National Assembly, it establishes the legal basis, scope, and objectives of the organization within the national political system. The Law defines the Union as a mass organization operating under the Constitution and national legislation, representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Lao women, and contributing to national development and social cohesion.
The Law sets out principles, organizational structure, roles, rights, and duties of the Lao Women’s Union at all levels. It outlines state policies supporting women’s advancement, gender equality, and participation in political, economic, and social life. The Union is tasked with policy input, education and mobilization of women, protection of rights, organizational development, and cooperation with domestic and international partners.
