Abstract
This Regulation, consisting of six Parts, defines the principles, rules, measures for production, processing, import and export and distribution of Food in Lao PDR in order to management, control, strengthen and promote the food businesses units in term of development. To be as a tool of monitoring, control of the production, processing, import and export and distribution of Food; in order to ensuring the quality and safety for consumers, making the food businesses units and food activities functions smoothly undertake accordingly to defined rules and principles.
The Regulation sets out safe food production and processing measures including: quantity and standards of food additives used in food which must comply with the Codex Standard for food additives; packaging requirements; storage requirements; etc.
The Regulation further provides for procedures for the registration of food businesses with the Food and Drug Department and for obtaining import permissions and export certifications.
Furthermore, the Regulation provides for: roles and functions of food management and inspection authorities; prohibitions in food production, processing, advertising, importation, etc.; and rewards and sanctions.
