Abstract
These Guidelines provide for ensuring a safe and efficient removal and disposal of Sargassum from affected beaches with minimal effects on the coastal habitats, as the Sargassum weeds accumulation affects the tourism and fishing industries. The Guidelines specifies the context and the species of Sargassum indigenous to the Caribbean and North Atlantic region, and outlines actions to be taken by contractors, in order to ensure a proper removal and disposal of sargassum, with minimal effects on beach integrity, taking into considerations: the impact on the habitat used by turtles, birds and lizards; mitigation of beach erosion; environmental protection.
