Abstract
The National Invasive Species Strategy is a national policy with a multi-sectoral approach. The timeframe of this Strategy is 10 years between 2012 and 2021. The overall objective of this Strategy is to protect aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their native biodiversity and domestic plants and animals from the risks of invasive species. To this end, strategies will be developed to eliminate the negative impacts of invasive alien species on agriculture, forestry, fisheries, human, plant and animal health, wildlife management, transportation, industry as well as ecosystem services. The institutional, policy and legislative framework will be developed to address the introduction of invasive alien species. Moreover, human and institutional capacity will be built through the media and public awareness programmes of environmental impacts of invasive alien species. The duty of the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries is to promote agricultural, forestry and fisheries development, and to enforce quarantine controls in trade sector.
