Abstract
The Act establishes the conditions under which cattle may be slaughtered and removed, regulates the branding of cattle over the age of eighteen months and states the duty of every divisional Assistant Government Agent to maintain a cattle register and to issue cattle vouchers. Part IV regulates the trespass of animals on any private land under cultivation, or any irrigation work, line of railway, public road, park or State land. According to Section 14 it shall be lawful for the owner or occupier of land to seize or detain any animal trespassing on the land; among other things the Act makes provision for the destruction of stray pigs or poultry, the disposal of carcasses, the recovery of damages and expenses. This Act, consisting of 38 articles divided into six Parts, is divided as follows: Slaughter and Removal of Animals (Part II); Branding of Cattle (Part III); Trespass by Animals (Part IV); Castration and Breeding (Part V); General (Part VI).

An Act to regulate the slaughter of animals; to enable the restriction, control or regulation of the removal of animals from one administrative district to another; to make provision for the branding of animals and for the issue of vouchers in respect of animals which have been branded and to regulate the sale and transfer of such animals; to provide for the seizure and detention of animals which commit trespass and for the assessment and recovery of damages for such trespass; to provide for measures for the improvement of the breed animals; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Entry into force notes
Parts I, II, III, IV and VI entered into force on 20 August 1962 and Part V not in operation on 31st December, 1980.

This Act repeals the Buffaloes Protection Ordinance, the Cattle Ordinance and the Cattle Trespass Ordinance.This Act has been amended by Act No. 46 of 30 November 1988.
